Guidelines

Guidelines for the Editorial Board

Taking into account the editorial opinions, the Editorial Board has the final decision on the manuscripts to be published in the scientific journal Deliberationes.

The Editorial Board is responsible for primarily reviewing the submitted manuscripts according to formal requirements, for initiating the proofreading process, for evaluating the reviews, for providing the editorial services necessary for publication and for publishing accepted and edited manuscripts.

Due to formal errors or substantive defects the Editorial Board either returns manuscripts received for correction or rejects them before the proofreading process begins. The Editorial Board does not take responsibility for any plagiarism, which is the responsibility of the Author.

The Editorial Board is assisted in its activities by professional reviewers and linguistic proofreaders and Gerhardus Publishing.

The editorial staff may not disclose any information about the manuscript submitted for publication to anyone other than the author, potential reviewers, other editorial staff, or the publisher.

Accepted manuscripts are published in Deliberationes. Papers and findings not yet published may not be used in research and publication activities by those involved in the publication process. Errors or other inaccuracies can be corrected before and after publication of the manuscript. Should the author detect a significant error in a submitted or already published study or article, he/she is obliged to report this fact to the Editorial Board. In this case, the Editorial Board will allow the error to be corrected or an amendment to be published.

Guidelines for Reviewers

Manuscripts are reviewed/assessed by two independent and anonymous reviewers, according to predefined professional criteria. The reviewers may be members of the Editorial Board or external qualified researchers/lecturers and other experts, but in all cases they must be representatives of the particular field of study being reviewed.

Deliberationes does not pay a fee for reviews and will issue a certificate of review upon request. Publication of submitted manuscripts is subject to the assessment/evaluation of reviewers.

In the case of incongruent reviewers’ opinions, the Editorial Board decides whether to accept or reject the manuscript on the basis of the opinion of a third independent reviewer.

The reviewer reviews the submitted manuscripts, recommends their rejection or acceptance, and, in the case of papers to be revised, suggests changes and corrections. The reviewer’s assessment is recorded on a separate form provided by the Editorial Board.

The reviewer may draw the Editorial Board's attention to any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under review and any previously published paper of which he/she is aware.

Reviewers are invited by the Editorial Board on the basis of their professional competence. The deadline for accepting or rejecting an invite is 1 week. There is a time limit of 2 weeks from the acceptance to completing the review.

The reviewer must treat all manuscripts submitted for review as confidential, may not consult anyone other than certain members of the Editorial Board, and may cite the findings included in them only after publication.

The reviewers’ assessment/evaluation must be objective. Criticism of the author is not acceptable. Reviewers must provide convincing arguments in support of their claims.

If the reviewer obtains confidential information in the evaluation process, he/she must keep it confidential and not use it to his/her own advantage. Manuscripts should not be reviewed by people who maintain a conflict of interest with any of the authors or the author's institution. They shall sign a declaration of conflict of interest.

Guidelines for Authors

Authors publishing in the scientific journal Deliberationes of Gál Ferenc University must adhere to the professional and ethical guidelines set by the Editorial Board. These guidelines are based on the principles set out in the Code of Ethics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

The acceptance of manuscripts is based on the acceptance of and compliance with publication and ethical guidelines. Since compliance with the guidelines can only partially be monitored by the journal, it is the author's responsibility to comply fully with them, according to the following standards.

Authors shall comply with the formal requirements laid down by Deliberationes, shall cite references, and shall report the data and findings obtained in line with reality.

Any form of plagiarism is unethical and unacceptable. Authors must declare that

  • their manuscript is entirely their own intellectual product, and
  • wherever the work and/or expressions of others are used, these are properly cited and quoted.

Publishing a piece of writing with the same text and content in more than one journal is unethical and unacceptable.

All those who have significantly contributed to the study should be listed as co-authors. The first author listed will ensure that all entitled co-authors are included in the manuscript and will ensure that the final version of the paper accepted for publication has been read by all co-authors and that they have agreed to its submission to the journal Deliberationes.

If applicable, the Author must disclose the sources of financial support for research related to the preparation/writing of the manuscript.

The reviewing process

First the Editorial Board checks that the submitted manuscripts meet the formal requirements. This is done within 1 week, after which the author will be notified electronically. In case of formal inaccuracies the manuscript will be returned to the author for correction. There are up to 2 weeks (10 working days) available for formal corrections.

We would like to point out that the first notification is merely about compliance with the formal requirements! Manuscripts that fully comply with them will be sent for professional reviewing and linguistic proofreading.

As of the 2025 publication year, Deliberationes will employ the Oxsico plagiarism detection software in accordance with a service agreement concluded between Gál Ferenc University and Lingua Intellegens LLC. The software is used to assess the originality of submitted manuscripts by systematically identifying textual similarities and potential instances of overlap.

Professional review

Manuscripts that meet the formal requirements will be assessed by an academically qualified lecturer or researcher with expertise in the subject area concerned. Foreign-language sections will be checked by a linguistic proofreader following content assessment. Reviewers will have 2 weeks to prepare their assessments/reviews.

Deliberationes uses the so-called 'double blind' reviewing system to evaluate the studies it receives. This means that manuscripts are double-blind proofread, i.e. neither the author nor the reviewer is known to the other person.

The manuscript will be assessed by two separate reviewers using a " Reviewer’s Assessment" form, based on the following categories:

In his assessment, the reviewer indicates that the manuscript received for evaluation

  • is acceptable in its current form
  • requires minor corrections
  • requires a moderate review
  • requires a thorough review

The authors have 2 weeks from the date of receipt of the reviewers’ comments to submit a revised final manuscript. If necessary, the reviewers or the Editorial Board may request several rounds of revisions of a manuscript.

The accepted manuscripts will be published in the next issue of our journal. Authors will be informed of the exact publication date by e-mail.

As for hard copies, each Author is entitled to 3 complimentary copies. These copies can be collected in person at the Library of Gál Ferenc University (6720 Szeged, Dóm tér 6.) or at the different faculties of the university.

Authors will retain copyright and full publishing rights without restrictions.
