The aim of the article is to theoretically and pragmatically define and present multiculturalism and interculturalism, alongside with their basic differences, types, consequences and problematic aspects, all with real life examples. As far as this theoretical approach is concerned, we are defining „The Smelting Pot” and „The Salad Bowl” type multicultural societies, highlighting their overall advantages and disadvantages. We are also analysing the relationship between multiculturalism and liberalism, as well as the characteristics and impact of recent movements (like WOKE, BLM), which lately have shattered the individual’s and community’s rapport to historic past, basic values; what’s more, in their consequences, they have raised the question that whether in our modern, „civilised” society family, school and democratic institutions are abel to fulfill their duties and responsibilities; or, whether, surrendering to the „politically correct” movement initiated in last century’s mid ’50s (which has become mainstream by now) they are willing to change history…not taking into consideration the then applicable and characteristic corelations, cause and effect, as well as value systems.
We are also making a comparative analysis of the advantages and disadvantages that the interconnection and interdependency between culture, nation and nationality or ethnic origins have; in addition, we aim at highlighting the most important consequences that the mainstream mentality and narrative regarding the topic have, by describing and debating on the challenges posed by migration, education and instruction, foreign language competence, minority and majority rights, aboriginal minority values.
